Flower Arranging Fundraiser 2012

By |June 29th, 2013|Fund Raising|0 Comments

We would like to thank all those who supported our flower arranging evening and Christmas draw.  A total of €2112.56 was raised.
All primary schools lost a major source of annual income when the minor works grant was withdrawn by the Department of Education and Skills last November/December.  This grant was used for painting, boiler repairs and purchase of furniture and computer hardware etc.  It amounted to approximately 25% of our total school grant allocation.
As you can appreciate, this is a huge financial loss to our school.  Running costs have certainly not decreased over the past few years!
Therefore, we would like […]

Opening and closing times

By |June 28th, 2013|For Parents & Guardians|0 Comments

We would remind everyone of school opening and closing times:-
School starts at 9.10 a.m.
School finishes at 1.50 p.m. for infants and 2.50 p.m. for first to sixth classes.

We have been advised by our insurance company that supervision by school personnel is required 10 minutes before official opening time i.e. 9.10p.m. so doors will open at 9.00a.m.
We would ask you not to drop children off before that time as we are not insured for them to be on the premises.

We would ask parents to pick up their children promptly at 1.50p.m. or 2.50p.m.  It can be distressing for young children in […]

Educational Welfare Board – Absent Days

By |June 28th, 2013|For Parents & Guardians|0 Comments

All schools are required to comply with the National Education Welfare Board.  This body is responsible for monitoring school attendance in both primary and secondary schools throughout Ireland.

Under legislation we have to make five reports to the N.E.W.B. per year.  If any child has been absent for 20 or more days in the school year, we have to forward details of this to the board.

It is very important that children attend school on a regular basis as they can miss out on important learning opportunities. If your child is absent from school, we would ask you to send a note […]

St Muras – Winners of Battle of the Books 2013 & 2014

By |June 20th, 2013|After School, Competitions, Extra Learning, General|0 Comments

Battle of the Books is a reading incentive programme for students aged 8 – 12; the aim is to encourage students to read good books and have fun whilst competing with peers.

The adopted theme was the ‘Battle of the Books’ – the initial quizzes were centred on books read during the BOB programme, and the students competed against their peers in their own schools in a quiz based on the content of those books. These ‘battles’ or quizzes took place in Buncrana Community Library this spring.

The next stage of the programme involved the winning team from each school competing against […]
